Food energy

A raw food teacher I respect once wrote that people typically find themselves choosing foods that match energetically with their emotional energies. High quality food equals health and happiness, but if your life is a mess, you tend to choose foods that require so much energy to process that you no longer experience the full weight of your emotions. Self-medication, with all its accompanying side effects.

Self-awareness, he theorized, was the only path to health. Ok, Socrates. Can't I have an e… Continue

Happy Thanksgiving :)

Hi there... I haven't added a blog post lately, feeling a little uninspired, but I did want to check in, and wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!!

I'm in a little bit of a weird place this week, having slight anxiety again about the upcoming holiday. I've actually had a few cooked meals within the past week too. I was on a really good roll, and then just lost it a little. The good news is that I don't eat as much as I used to when I eat the cooked, so I'm containing the damage at least. I a… Continue

Weekend/Detox

So this weekend I had a lot of people over, and had a few of what used to be my favourite foods to serve to them. Apple pie, crumb pie, chips, roasted and salted nuts, canapes etc etc. I also made a platter with raw foods for -at least I thought- just myself; apples, celery and cucumbers with a date/sunflower seed dip (thanks Connie for the recipe!). I am amazed that I did not want to eat any of the cooked foods at all, and was quite happy eating what I made for myself. Well, what was left, beca… Continue

Hubby's leaving me for the week...what's he going to eat?!

He wants to eat lots of fruit at his parents' house in NM this week, so we ordered a case of bananas, 12 grapefruit (banana-grapefruit is his favorite smoothie now!), and 2 bunches of celery at the local store there. His dad picked it up for him at the store today and called us to make sure, "You ordered a whole box of bananas? You're gonna eat a lot of damn bananas!"

Sweet Fruits - Best when eaten alone or combined with lettuce or celery. They can be combined with sub-acid fruits. *Do not combine well with acid fruits or fats.

Sub Acid Fruits-Combines well with acid or sweet fruits, but not both at the same time. Also combines well with lettuce or celery.

Acid Fruits -Good with lettuce or celery. Combines well with sub acid fruits. *Does not combine with sweet fruits.

Melons- Best when eaten alone for optimal digestion.

Vegetables-Combines well with most food except sweet fruits.

Starches- Combines well with most vegetables. *Not recommended with meat or fruit.

Meats-Best combined with salads, not sugars, fruits, or starches. (Not an issue here with raw vegans)

Fats- Best combines with salads. Will combine ok with acid fruits. *Should not be combined with sweet fruits or starches.

Following good combining practices is a real benefit to your body's digestion. Occasionally preparing a raw dish that violates these rules isn't the end of the world. I'm known to break a few rules when throwing a raw party by combining sweet fruits and acid fruits or some other suboptimal combination.
